There is no doubt that great brands are incredibly powerful components of successful marketing efforts.
To understand the present, it is critical to understand history. Over the course of my life, I have come to appreciate the importance of knowing the history of people, communities and organizations in order to understand their present situation. Even as a child, I had a great appreciation for history, in part because I was privileged to visit so many historical sites and learn so much about the founding of our country.
As I entered the workforce, it became apparent to me that business organizations could also be better understood if there was an appreciation of history and how the company got to where it is. I even wrote a paper about how important it is to know the history of a company and the industry it serves in order to develop the best strategy for the company going forward.
At one point, I even spent a great deal of time and effort exploring genealogy in an effort to better understand my family and myself. As a result of that effort, I became fascinated by to characters in my family’s history.
The Jeremy Rifkin video shown above is interesting as it provides an insight into convergence and the next generation of business. I don’t agree with his premise in the video nor do I agree with all of his specific points, but I do find it to be a great thought provoking video.
